After claiming the Super Cup title by defeating the reigning champions PSV in a thrilling match, Feyenoord is set to kick off their Eredivisie season at home in De Kuip, Rotterdam.

Feyenoord, a 16-time Dutch champion, have had two excellent seasons. They won the league title in 2022/23 and were the runner-ups in the previous season, missing it by seven points. Even though seven points sounds a lot, Feyenoord had a fantastic season, winning 84 points, which is enough for the title in most seasons. However, Feyenoord managed to win the Cup, and the last season must be considered a success. Before the start of the season, the bookies see Feyenoord as the second-favorite for the title, with the odds of around 3.2, only behind PSV (2.0).

Willem II has returned to the Eredivisie after a two-year absence, having clinched the Eerste Divisie title last season. Their only goal this season is to secure survival. However, the impression is that Willem II failed to improve the squad over the Summer, and that will surely be a challenging task.

Feyenoord vs Willem II pick: Feyenoord to win and cover the -2 AH spread

In the preparation period, Feyenoord had their ups and downs, winning three and losing two. However, when it mattered, in the Super Cup, Feyenoord were excellent as they won against PSV on penalties after a 4:4 draw in regular time. Last year, they were incredible, with a 76% win rate. At home, they managed to score 51 goals in 17 rounds - three per game, and we do not have a doubt they will score three or four against one of the weakest teams in the league.

Even though Willem II won the Eerste Divisie title, their road performance wasn't great. On the road, they won 34 points, compared to 45 points at home. So, if they had problems away from home against much weaker competition, it is fair to expect they would struggle against one of the best teams in the country.

In the previous h2h games, Feyenoord absolutely dominated Willem II, winning six in a row while covering the -1.5 AH spread five times and the -2.5 AH spread three times.

Considering all the above, we believe that Feyenoord should secure a comfortable home win in the first league game of the season.

Willem II team news

Over the Summer, the club added just three players and spent just 450.000 euros. Additionally, the club added two more players (Cisse Sandra and Kyan Vaesen) on a loan deal from Club Brugge and KVC Westerlo.

Meanwhile, six players left the team: Matthias Verreth, Thijs Oosting, and Freek Heerkens. While the first two moved to other clubs, Heerkens decided to retire at age 34. Additionally, the team's top scorer last year, Jeredy Hilterman, left the team, too, since he was on a loan deal from Almere.
