Leeds United will start what will be their second straight campaign in the Championship when they host Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts didn't end the 2023-24 campaign the way they would have liked. Daniel Farke's men finished third, only to be knocked out in the play-off final by bottom side Southampton, and they will be looking for redemption this term. Leeds go into the first Matchday of the new season full of confidence after registering a 100% record in their preseason fixtures.

Portsmouth, meanwhile, are one of the new boys in the second tier. After seven successive seasons in League One the visitors gained promotion as Champions and that was largely thanks to their away form. John Mousinho’s side had the best away record, suffering only two defeats and that will give them some kind of motivation heading into the new season.

While Leeds finished last season on the losing side, the Whites looked sharp and dangerous in their pre-season friendlies. They won both of their pre-season friendlies, beating the likes of Harrogate Town and Valencia 3-0 and 2-1 respectively.

The visitors weren't too bad in their pre-season friendlies, but their record against Leeds United is not good. Portmouth are winless in their last four meetings with the Whites and I don't think they have what it takes to end that run this weekend.
