Ahead of the Premier League kick-off next weekend, Manchester City and Manchester United battle it out with the Community Shield on the line at Wembley.

An often entertaining occasion that has become more competitive in recent years, the Community Shield pits FA Cup winners Manchester United against Premier League title winners Manchester City on Satureday. 

Just three months on from United′s shock 2:1 FA Cup final win against City, another intriguing battle can be expected, even if both sides remain somewhat short of full fitness.

Following a busy summer, City boss Guardiola has continued to rest his Euro 2024 and Copa America squad members, with the likes of Rodri, Phil Foden, and Kevin de Bruyne yet to feature in their US tour. 

City return to England having lost two of four US friendlies played against Celtic (4:3), and AC Milan (3:2), while they also played to a 2:2 draw with Barcelona. The Citizens only success came with a 4:2 win against fellow EPL rivals Chelsea. 

A total of 22 goals were scored in those four matches and another high-scoring occasion could be on the cards this weekend.

Manchester United come into Saturday's showpiece occasion looking to bounce back from a disappointing 3:0 friendly loss against Liverpool last time out. Erik Ten Haag′s side won three but lost two of five pre-season preparation fixtures. 

Like City boss Guardiola, Ten Haag has been restricted with his team selection, and it remains to be seen how strong a selection the Dutch boss will have available this weekend.

Ultimately, given their rivalry, and an expectant 90000 crowd, we should expect an entertaining and high-scoring affair. I′m backing over 2.5 goals while I also expect both teams to score, with at least four match goals not to be discounted.
