In pursuit of their first trophy this season, Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven will take on KNVB Cup holders Feyenoord in the Dutch Super Cup final at Philips Stadion on Sunday.

The Eindhoven giants will be vying for a record-extending 15th Johan Cruyff Shield trophy as a result of last season's outstanding Eredivisie campaign in which they effortlessly marched to the championship title, dropping just 11 points and winning 29 of their 34 top-flight matches. Ahead of the weekend's showpiece match, Peter Bosz's men are carrying good momentum from the pre-season, having emerged victorious in three of their last four friendly outings, with their most recent win coming against LaLiga outfit Valencia, thanks to Ismael Saibari's brace in a 2-1 triumph.

For their part, Feyenoord has set up a showpiece encounter with record-holders PSV based on their successful KNVB Beker campaign during which they overcame every obstacle to lift the domestic cup trophy for the 14th time in the club's history. Following the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, the Rotterdam-based team bid farewell to Arne Slot, who moved to Liverpool, and brought in Brian Priske as his replacement. However, the Danish coach was not pleased with his team’s recent performances, watching them suffer back-to-back losses in warm-ups against Benfica and Monaco, conceding an astonishing eight goals in the process.

In a repeat of last year's Dutch Super Cup final—which the Eindhoven club settled in their favour with Noah Lang's solitary strike—PSV will look to continue their reign in the competition and capture the trophy for the fourth year running. Despite possessing a formidable attacking arsenal, we remain convinced that the trend of low productivity will persist and that their Johan Cruyff Shield contest will once again see the sides separated by a solitary effort.
